Requirements

Apple TV HD (2015) or any Apple TV 4K, running tvOS 17 or later. The 2015 model is tested and works; a 4K model handles H.265 and larger grids better.
A Synology NAS running DSM 7 or later. DSM 6 is not supported.
Surveillance Station 9 or later, with at least one camera configured and online.
A DSM user account with Surveillance Station access.
Apple TV and NAS reachable on the same network, or a remote connection you set up yourself.

The two permissions that matter

In Surveillance Station, under Settings → Privilege Profile:

Live View. Without it, the camera list is empty.
Playback. Without it, live view works but recordings, events and thumbnails do not appear.

Create a separate viewing account for the Apple TV if you can. It keeps admin credentials out of the living room and can be revoked on its own.

Address and port

Address: the local IP of the NAS is the most reliable at home, for example 192.168.1.20. Find it in DSM under Control Panel → Network. A hostname or QuickConnect ID also works.
Port: the DSM port, 5000 for HTTP or 5001 for HTTPS by default.

Sanity check: open http://your-nas-ip:5000 in a browser on the same network. If DSM does not load there, fix that before touching the app.

Stream quality

NasCam uses the best connection available to it. The full-resolution RTSP path needs an admin-level DSM account and a local network connection; without those it falls back to what your account and link allow. If live view stutters, wire the Apple TV with Ethernet and configure a lower-resolution secondary stream in Surveillance Station for multi-camera viewing.

Remote access

NasCam does not proxy video through any external service, so remote viewing is something you set up on your own network. A VPN back home is the safe approach; Synology's VPN Server package handles it. QuickConnect also works.

Troubleshooting

Which port should I use?

Your DSM port: 5000 for HTTP or 5001 for HTTPS by default. If DSM loads in a browser at that port on the same network, NasCam can reach it too.

My camera list is empty after signing in.

The DSM account is missing Live View permission for those cameras, or the cameras are offline in Surveillance Station. Check the privilege profile in Surveillance Station first.

The live view works but the events are empty.

That is the Playback permission. Live View alone shows live feeds only. Grant Playback to the same account and the timeline fills in.

Does two-factor authentication work?

Yes. If the DSM account uses 2FA, NasCam asks for the six-digit code from your authenticator app.

Can I use HTTPS with a self-signed certificate?

Yes. If you are debugging a connection problem, try the plain HTTP port first to confirm reachability, then move back to HTTPS.
